It's official! Amy has been offered a job at Northeast High School in Broward County, Florida. We've had some good conversations with the manager of a fine little apartment building and we feel pretty good about our chances of getting an apartment with a nice view by the time we lug all of our stuff (or some of our stuff) to Fort Lauderdale.
I've also discovered that the water taxi that I could very well take to work every day is pretty cheap if you're a regular: $99/year.
Now the really hard parts of the whole thing come into play: saying goodbye to my childhood city (and the greatest city in the world); finding a reasonable way to get an apartment full of stuff, two people, and two cats from here to there... it's a hell of a long trip; cleaning out the storage unit from hell; and so on and so on.
I'm pretty sure I'm going to be a full-time freelancer for a little while until we settle in, though I'm certainly going to be open to job offers from the few web development companies in the Fort Lauderdale area. At least, they'll know who I am before I get there.
And I'm also thinking about an MFA in creative writing at Miami. Or maybe a law degree. But that's my problem. I'm not sure what the next step is (besides moving from one corner of the continent to the other).
